It was established in 2009, to encourage people to consider leaving a gift in their will to benefit the local community forever. People can also make gifts during their lifetime to build up their fund and maximise the tax rebates now available.

The Opotiki trust is based on a model established in New York in the 1920's. The Trust manages funds on behalf of its donors. The investment income earned is distributed annually to charities chosen by our donors or donors may choose to leave the distributions to the Trustees discretion.
